Wei Yang & Partners provide garden city development strategies for Daxing District, Beijing
16 Dec 2015
Regarded as Beijing’s Garden Suburb, Daxing is not only famous for its rich history (one of China’s first counties with more than 2400 years of history) and agricultural products, but also for the anticipated Beijing New International Airport. Once completed in 2019, this eight runway terminal will become the biggest airport in the world with 130 million annual passengers, making Daxing the gateway to the capital of China.
Dr Wei Yang, Managing Director of the practice, is delighted by the commission, “we are excited to get involved in this significant project, and are passionate about contributing great ideas and practical solutions to Daxing’s future. Our international vision and unique 21st Century Garden City design approach enable us to provide overarching strategies and implementation details for this exciting and complex project.”
Inspired by England’s beautiful countryside, Wei Yang & Partners’ phase one masterplan for the District is mainly focused on the eco-tourism sector and the urban-rural integration in light of the great potentials stimulated by the new airport. The recommendations have been well received by the district council and will be used as guidance for the district’s 13th Five-Year Plan. Further phases of masterplan are to follow.
