Dr Wei Yang’s Garden City book became best seller number 1 in Taiwan
15 Nov 2021
During the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, Dr Yang co-authored Humanistic Pure Land and Garden Cities (2021) with Venerable Ru Chuang, Director of Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum in Taiwan. The book was launched on 7th Nov 2021 to celebrate the 72nd World Town Planning Day during COP26 the UN Climate Change Summit.
Each author wrote a separate part of the book, i.e. Venerable Ru Chuang wrote Humanistic Pure Land, Dr Yang wrote Garden Cities. The book took an innovative approach to reveal the moral connections between the philosophies of Garden City and Humanistic Buddhism.
Soon after the book’s publication, it became Taiwan best seller book number one.
The income of the book will be donated to Fo Guang Shan Education Foundation to fund education and living cost for children from disadvantaged background.
Dr Yang said:
“I am really delighted that Humanistic Pure Land and Garden Cities, the book I wrote during the first Covid-19 lockdown with my friend Venerable Ru Chuang became a best seller number one in Taiwan. It shows that the public is keen to engage with the innovation town planning.
“If adapted to the 21st century context and technology, I believe the Garden City model can provide an appealing solution to cultivate healthy and happy communities with low carbon lifestyles. It is a new civilisation – a Zero Carbon one, where people, nature and society co-exists in harmony.”
