On April 15 2016, Dr Wei Yang gives a keynote speech, ‘Creating Liveable Places – a Roadmap of Green & Low-carbon Urbanisation in China’, at RICS Urban Development International Conference in Beijing.
The Urban Development International Conference is jointly held by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and International Strategic Studies Centre of the Chinese Counsellors’ Office of the State Council.
Dr Wei Yang says ‘The unprecedented Chinese urbanisation has gradually moved from large metropolitan cities to small and medium-sized cities and towns. To stand the test of time, it is urgent to define a green and low-carbon development approach for them in relation to Chinese circumstances.’
‘The mode of extensive urbanisation development in China for the last three decades cannot meet the quality demands now. It is crucial that the current Chinese planning, implementation and management systems can be reformed as a matter of urgency. Thus to guarantee sustainable developments, protect beautiful landscapes, inherit and carry forward Chinese cultural heritages, as well as to be exemplar for the rest of the world.’
